On Saturday, Lech Poznan will face Legia Warsaw at home in the 23rd league round of Lotto Ekstraklasa. For the hosts, it will be an opportunity to end a series of poor performances. “Everyone was hoping for a great beginning of the spring league round, but life turned out to have other plans. Now it’s time to win that match,” said Maciej Gajos on the pre-match press conference.
Following the two losses, against Zaglebie Lubin and Piast Gliwice, Lech was heavily criticized. During the press conference proceeding the clash with Legia Warsaw, Gajos emphasized that the harsh feedback is motivating for the team. “I know that we are criticized for a reason. The team knows that we need to turn it into motivation. The easiest thing we could do is just surrender to the harsh words and do nothing, but we are doing exactly the opposite. After the two poor performances, it’s time to focus, concentrate, and show what we are capable of. However, social media is not the right way to show that,” explained Gajos.
The clash between Lech and Legia is a long-awaited classic of Polish football. The hosts are hoping to repeat their performance from October 2017 when they beat their biggest rival 3:0 and Gajos scored one of the goals. “Of course, it’s a special game for us. The whole country concentrates on that match. The clash from 2017 is a great memory – everything went according to plan that night. We dominated on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. We need to have the same attitude and positive energy on Saturday,” said the midfielder.
Legia, similarly to Lech, hasn’t been performing as expected in this spring league round. In the most recent match, the team from Warsaw was beaten by Cracovia 0:2. The squad from Poznan has been observing Legia’s matches closely. “I watched their two most recent games and we also analyzed them with the team. We know how we should behave in specific situations, but what we really need to remember is that it all comes down to how we perform. We need to work on ourselves – that’s what we are currently concentrating on,” summarized Gajos.
