“There are many matches still to play before the season ends and a couple of consecutive wins can enable you to reach the top of the table,” said Jasmin Buric, Lech’s goalkeeper.
In the opening match of the spring league round, Lech Poznan was beaten by Zaglebie Lubin at home. In the second half, when the scoreboard still showed a 1:1 draw, Lech’s opponents were given a penalty kick that Buric successfully saved. It was the third time in his career that the Bosnian keeper managed to win a penalty clash with a rival. “Of course, I was thrilled to have saved the shot, especially since it meant that the score remained a draw and we were still in the game,” explained Buric.
“I am the kind of player that would rather have his team win, than save a penalty. I think about what’s good for the team, not what’s good for me,” added the 31-year-old.
In the 21st round of LOTTO Ekstraklasa, most of the teams who were closely positioned to Lech in the league table won their matches. However, the Bosnian keeper emphasizes that at this stage of the season, it doesn’t mean anything yet. “We all know what football is like and everything can change within seconds. There are many matches still to play before the season ends and a couple of consecutive wins can enable you to reach the top of the table, the way it happened in at the end of the autumn round when we jumped into the top 3 following a few good games. It can still happen, no one has lost anything yet,” explained Buric.
On Friday, Lech is going to face Piast Gliwice in an away clash. Both teams have lost their first games of the calendar year, hence they will be looking to take all 3 points home. “I am a positive person and I hope that we’ll show better football in Gliwice and that it will help us win the game,” finished the goalkeeper.
