Van der Hart underwent surgery
On Tuesday, Lech’s goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart underwent shoulder surgery. “Everything went well and now it’s time for slow rehabilitation. Mickey will be out for about 5 months,” explained professor Krzysztof Pawlaczyk, Head of Medical Staff at Lech.
The goalkeeper suffered a serious injury during the penalty shootout against Lechia Gdańsk in the Totolotek Polish Cup semifinals. The Dutch keeper successfully stopped Pietrzak’s attempt but whilst doing so, he hurt his shoulder. Despite being in pain, van der Hart returned to goal. In the third round of penalties, Zwoliński beat the goalkeeper, but the Dutch player saved another penalty kick in the following round and dislocated his shoulder even further. The injury was so severe that he had to be replaced by Miłosz Mleczko.
Initially, the doctors decided there was no need for surgery. However, a few days later further diagnosis confirmed the worst-case scenario. “Professor Lubiatowski explained that most likely, van der Hart would need surgery. We didn’t want to make such assumptions because preservative treatment tends to work. However, we did emphasise that consultations with foreign specialists will be necessary. Following those consultations, we were sure that van der Hart would have to undergo a surgical treatment which was finally carried out in the Netherlands on Tuesday. Everything went well and now it’s time for slow rehabilitation. Mickey will be out for about 5 months,” said professor Krzysztof Pawlaczyk.
This past season, van der Hart appeared in 39 games, 34 league clashes and 5 Polish Cup matches. In total, the goalkeeper conceded 34 goals and kept a clean sheet 16 times. Van der Hart is the league’s current record holder when it comes to the longest streak without conceding a goal.
