In this year's last league match Lech Poznan is going to face Piast Gliwice. Coach Urban expressed his respect for the leader. "We all thought that it would be another team that starts losing sooner or later," explained the coach.
However, Piast keeps on collecting points and no matter what score they achieve against Lech, the team from Gliwice will spend the winter break on the position of the leader of Ekstraklasa. After 20 games Latal's squad has 42 points on their account, 5 points more than Legia which is second. "I have been observing Piast from the beginning of the season and they held onto the first rank. At some point they increased the advantage over other teams. I analyzed their games and have said some time ago that it wont be easy to catch up to them," admitted Lech's coach.
The team from Poznan lost the first league match of the season against Piast, but now they have the chance to get their revenge. Nonetheless, the coach emphasizes the difficulty of the task. "They have an experienced team, even though their captain is young. Piast plays good football at a high level. They have a few determined players that are on loan and want to show their value. It is no accident that they have won so many matches. They deserved it," explained Jan Urban.
Still Piast is not the only team that surprisingly occupies such a high rank. It was similar last year when Jagiellonia Bialystok fought for the championship till the last round. "Piast's rank is no accident and it won't be easy to deprive them of the first position, nor eliminate them from the Polish Cup," commented the Coach, highlighting the situation from a few seasons ago when Ruch Chorzow won the championship.
Lech will attempt to exploit Piast's weaknesses that are linked to the absence of Vacek and Nespora. Both players are very influential. "For Piast it's a big loss, but we have our own problems too. Nonetheless, I do not focus on that. We have a nice ending to the season ahead of us and we hope we will start the winter break in good moods," said Urban.
