New year, new turf - the process of replacing the grass at Poznan City Stadium has just begun. The turf replacement has been scheduled a while ago, however, its start date was determined by the concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Greater Poland uprising which was held at Lech’s home venue on December 27th.
It’s the first complex turf replacement since 2010. The process will focus on removal of old grass, replacement of the vegetative layer, and geodesic works. This complex operation is meant to facilitate turf management in the future. “We are removing the old grass and vegetative layer. The whole process is dependent on the weather. If everything goes according to plan, it will take us 3 days to remove the old grass, 3 days to transport the new layer of grass, and 4 days to install it,” explained Grzegorz Szulczynski, Lech’s greenkeeper.
The brand new turf will originate from the Netherlands. “This is where we buy grass from because it’s the only place which offers quality grass at this time of the year. Due to the specific characteristics of the stadium and the current season, we chose a supplier who is capable of providing the right turf of a more intense colour. Whether everything goes well depends on professional care and adequate lighting,” emphasised Szulczynski.
The turf replacement schedule expects the works to be finished by January 14th.
