On Saturday, Lech will kick off the second part of the season with a home match against Zagłębie Lubin. In the past three years, Lech’s opening games of the spring round were played away and, interestingly, all of them ended in draws.
Last season, Lech Poznań played their first match of the year in Mielec where they faced Stal. Their opponent had a successful autumn round and was ranked 6th in the league table, just 2 points away from the podium. John van den Brom’s squad failed to extend their winning streak from the end of 2022 and the two teams ended up sharing league points since the match ended in a goalless draw.
The year before, the team from Poznań faced Cracovia in the first match of 2022. Lech’s players were full of optimism before the kick-off of the spring round since they finished the first part of the season at the top of the league table with a two-point advantage over Pogoń Szczecin who was ranked second. The clash with Cracovia was an exhilarating show - even though the hosts scored first, Lech found the back of the net three times thanks to Jakub Kamiński and Joao Amaral. Just when it seemed that the team from Poznań would add three league points to their account, Cracovia equalized shortly before the final whistle. However, the lost points didn’t negatively impact Lech’s season since in May, the team from Poznań celebrated winning the 8th Polish Championship title.
Meanwhile, the 2021/22 campaign was far from successful, and so was Lech’s first match of the spring round. The team from Poznań drew against Górnik Zabrze 1:1 in an away clash. The hosts scored first but then Lech equalized thanks to Thomas Rogne. Interestingly, the mentioned game was Bartosz Salamon’s debut - shortly before, the defender returned to Poznań after 14 years.
Saturday (8:00 PM), Lech will have an opportunity to end the streak of draws when they face Zagłębie Lubin at home in the opening match of the 2024 spring round.
