Lech’s defender, Joel Pereira will miss the upcoming league matches. The Ekstraklasa SA League Commission banned the player for three games for the red card which he received in the recent clash with Górnik Zabrze (3:1).
In the 89th minute of the match against Górnik, Joel Pereira acted irresponsibly and hit Ishmael Baidoo in the head with his boot. The referee did not hesitate to show the defender a red card. Until then, the Portuguese player has been performing impressively and even got an assist (Jakub Kamiński’s goal). After the game, Pereira apologised to his opponent and emphasised that the foul was accidental. According to the Portuguese defender, it was the first time that he was thrown off the pitch.
On Wednesday, Ekstraklasa SA League Commission gathered to make a decision on Pereira’s ban. The commission’s statement read: “Joel Vieira Pereira was given a three-match ban for the Ekstraklasa competition as a result of the red card which the player received in the match Górnik Zabrze – Lech Poznań, in the 2nd round of Ekstraklasa.”
As a result, Lech’s new defender will miss the Friday home clash against Cracovia (8:30 pm), as well as the two following games - with Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza and Lechia Gdańsk.
