During spring Lech's team has been exploring the formation with three defenders. However, it seems that the training staff abandoned the idea in favor of a more classical formation.
Coach Jan Urban used the winter grouping as an opportunity to practice with a new formation. The team dropped 1-4-2-3-1 system and instead adopted a 1-3-5-2 formation. This tactic was also employed during spring league matches. "For now we leave the idea behind," explained coach Urban.
During the pre-season, the team from Poznan played with four defenders, midfielders, wingers, an offensive midfielder and a forward. "Last season allowed us to play in this formation due to the players we had in the squad, especially the right and left-backs and the center-backs," emphasized the coach.
The opinion of the players also plays a significant role in choosing the right tactic. "We have talked with the squad about the formation. They felt good whenever we were in possession, but the moment we lost the ball, the boys found it tough to mark the opponents," said Urban. "Therefore, for now we abandoned the idea."
