A long streak without a win against Raków has finally ended. On Sunday, Lech Poznań beat Raków Częstochowa 2:0 in an away league game. As a result, John van den Brom’s squad will play in European competition next season and still have a shot at finishing the current campaign on the podium.
One of the hottest topics prior to Lech’s clash with Raków was whether the Poznań players would celebrate Raków’s Championship title. John van den Brom’s squad made a guard of honour, showing respect to their opponent, but once the referee initiated the match, Lech had no sentiments.
Raków played a rather average match which enabled Lech to stay in possession of the ball for the majority of the time. Half an hour into the game, Nika Kvekveskiri sent a perfect cross into the penalty area and Filip Marchiwński redirected it into the back of the net with his head.
In the second half, Kvekveskiri won a penalty kick for his team and Kristoffer Velde converted it confidently into a second goal, setting the final score to 2:0.
Lech still has 2 matches to go before the season ends. Their objective is to finish the campaign on the podium, ahead of Pogoń Szczecin. On Friday, the team from Poznań will play an away game against Korona Kielce (8:30 pm). Then, a week later, Lech is going to finish the season with a home match against Jagiellonia Białystok.
