Lech's last match of 2023 was an away league clash with Radomiak Radom. Despite a two-goal advantage, John van den Brom’s squad won just one league point as the game ended in a 2:2 draw.
In the previous match, the team from Poznań lost 0:1 against Piast Gliwice. The task was even more challenging for Lech since Radomiak’s coach – Maciej Kędziorek – is John van den Brom’s former assistant and, therefore, is familiar with Lech’s style of play. Moreover, the hosts’ new coach already had one win and one draw in his account before the clash with the team from Poznań – a successful start to his span at the club from Radom.
John van den Brom surprised everyone by including Bartosz Salamon in the starting line-up. The experienced defender has just finished serving an 8-month suspension. In addition, the Dutchman positioned Nika Kvekveskiri as number 10. It was the Georgian midfielder who played a key role in Lech’s first goal. Shortly after scoring, he came close to getting a brace but this time, his shot from outside the box was slightly off-target.
The team from Poznań indisputably dominated on the pitch, and they proved that by scoring another goal in the second half. Joel Pereira recovered the ball in Radomiak’s box, dribbled past one of the defenders, and fired a strong shot under the crossbar. The turning point came in the 64th minute when Jesper Karlstrom received a second yellow card and was sent off. Since then, the hosts have been in control of the match. It didn’t take long for Radomiak to score the first goal thanks to Dawid Abramowicz. The hosts kept putting pressure on Lech’s defensive line with numerous crosses into the box. The guests defended successfully, but only for so long – a few minutes before the final whistle, Leonardo Rocha got Radomiak a desired equalizer and the two teams had to share league points. As a result, Lech is now 8 points behind the PKO BP Ekstraklasa leaders, Śląsk Wrocław.
