Lech Poznań won 6 consecutive PKO BP Ekstraklasa matches. John van den Brom's squad has extended last season’s successful run. Now they are just 3 triumphs short of the club’s record.
Lech finished the 2022/2023 season brilliantly – in May, John van den Brom’s squad defeated Cracovia (3:0), Raków Częstochowa (2:0), Korona Kielce (3:0), and Jagiellonia Białystok (2:0). The team from Poznań kicked off the current with even more triumphs - against Piast Gliwice (2:1), and Radomiak Radom (2:0). A total of six wins in a row and an impressive goal aggregate of 14-1.
Now Lech is just three league triumphs short of the club’s record. John van den Brom and his players will have a chance to extend the successful run on Sunday when they face Zagłębie Lubin in an away clash.
Lech’s record of consecutive wins in the league dates back to 1998, back when Adam Topolski was the coach. Interestingly, in the 2021/2022 season when the team from Poznań won the Polish Championship, they came close to equalising the record. Maciej Skorża’s squad triumphed against Wisła Płock (1:0), Górnik Łęczna (3:0), Stal Mielec (3:1), Piast Gliwice (2:1), Warta Poznań (2:1), and Zagłębie Lubin (2:1) – winning 25 out of 27 points. However, because of a draw against Legia Warsaw, the team failed to extend the run. If they would have been awarded a deserved penalty kick in the added time, Lech might have equalled the club’s record.
With six consecutive wins on their account, the current team equalised the achievement of the squad from 2015/2016. Back then, Jan Urban took over the team and towards the end of the spring round, they went on undefeated for six matches.
