Legia was the first to score and although Lech managed to turn the tables, in the end, the two teams had to share points as the match ended in a 2:2 draw.
The Polish derby was scheduled just three days after Lech’s difficult UECL clash with Fiorentina, however, coach John van den Brom made just a few changes in the starting line-up. Only three players out of the eleven did not start against the Italian side: Barry Douglas, Radosław Murawski, and Afonso Sousa.
The Portuguese player turned out to be the hero of the Sunday game as he scored a brace. However, it wasn’t until the second half that Sousa found the back of the net. In the first 45 minutes, Legia deservedly dominated, and Tomas Pekhart scored an opening goal. Lech came back for the second half looking much more confident and they equalized in the 47th minute, and then in the 69th minute, Sousa scored a beautiful goal and changed the score to 2:1 for the Poznań team.
Unfortunately, John van den Brom’s squad failed to hold onto the lead and in the 87th minute Paweł Wszołek set the final score to 2:2.
On Thursday, Lech will play the second leg of the UECL quarterfinals against Fiorentina (6:45 pm), and then on Monday, they will face Radomiak Radom, also in an away clash.
