Lech Poznan was beaten by Lecha Gdansk in the 8th league match of the season. The team from seaside won 2:1 following goals from Peszko, Nalepa (for Lechia), and Gytkjaer (for Lech).
The away clash with Lechia was a struggle for the team from Poznan since the opening minutes. Even though Lech was in possession of the ball more often than their rivals, Lechia attacked through counterattacks, causing big problems to the guests’ defensive line. Peszko – who was the engine of Lechia’s offence – had a perfect chance to score early on when he was left one-on-one with the keeper, but he failed to beat van der Hart. However, a couple of minutes later, the Dutch goalkeeper was helpless as Peszko redirected the ball into the back of the net after receiving a well-timed and precise pass from Sobiech.
Lechia wasn’t going to stop there, hence it took them another 9 minutes to change the score to 2:0. This time, Lech’s defensive line made an error that enabled Nalepa to tap the ball into the goal which was an undoubtedly hard blow for the team from Poznan.
However, the guests didn’t give up and before the referee announced halftime, they managed to pull one goal back. Amaral’s beautiful pass reached Gytkjaer and the Danish striker lobbed the keeper with a header. A 2:1 score gave the team from Poznan some hope ahead of the second 45 minutes.
The second half wasn’t nearly as exhilarating until the last 20 minutes of the match when the team from Poznan facing various problems. First, Kostevych was forced to leave the pitch due to an injury and Dejewski appeared on the field for the first time in a top-division game. A few minutes later, Tomczyk had a perfect opportunity to equalize but his dangerous half-volley was successfully stopped by Lechia’s goalkeeper.
In addition, the team from Poznan was forced to finish the match in 10 men after Crnomarković received a second yellow card, which also meant that the defender won’t appear in next week’s clash with Jagiellonia. Shortly afterwards, the referee blew the final whistle and the hosts rejoiced with another 3 league points.
