Dimitris Goutas became Lech’s newest transfer after passing medical tests successfully. The footballer joined the club from Poznan on a one-year loan from Olympiacos. The contract includes a buyout clause.
The 24-year old plays as a center-back. So far throughout his career, he represented Greek and Belgian football clubs. Goutas is a homegrown player of Skoda Xanthi for which he competed in 108 matches and scored 8 goals. “Dimitris was being observed by our scouting team since 2015. Even back then he played a key role for Xanthi and despite his young age, he managed to win a spot in the starting line-up even though there were more experienced, older footballers in the squad,” explained Armin Bezler, Lech’s scout.
Goutas’ talent was spotted by Olympiacos. The footballer moved to Piraeus in 2015 but never got a chance to wear the club’s shirt. Olympiacos sent the center-back on loan to his former club, as well as top-division Belgian sides like KV Kortrijk and Sint-Truiden. Goutas appeared 47 times on the Belgian pitches and scored 1 goal.
“Despite not having a chance to debut for Olympiacos, he’s an experienced footballer considering his age. He was an important figure whilst playing for his childhood club and Belgian teams. We are hoping to gain from the experience he gathered while competing in Jupiler Pro League where the game is played at a higher pace than here in Poland,” emphasized Bezler.
Back as a youth player, Goutas used to play as a striker but as soon as he joined Xanthi’s senior team, he was moved to the defense. “It’s been noticed that he was not only skilled at defending, but also played well in the rival’s penalty area. He attracted the ball,” said Lech’s scout.
During interviews proceeding the transfer, Dimitris explained that one of the key factors that influenced his decision was Lech’s reputation. “I am glad about this transfer. I know Lech is one of the best Polish clubs and has already won numerous trophies. I want to help the club win even more. My goal for this season is to win the Championship and Polish Cup, and I will do everything I can to achieve this,” explained the defender.
Dimitris Goutas is the 6th player to join Lech this summer. The club has already signed Tomasz Cywka, Karol Szymański, Pedro Tiba, João Amaral, and Dioni Villalba during this transfer window.
