Lech Poznan won with Zaglebie Sosnowiec 1:0 in the first leg of the Polish Cup semi-final. Vladimir Volkov got the goal that put Lech a step closer to the final of the national competition.
The opening minutes cannot be described as exhilarating since it took the players 16 minutes to create a good, offensive actions. The guests were the ones who attacked first. Due to a coincidence the ball fell by the feet of Fidziukiewicz and the player attempted to place it in the net with a shot from an acute angle. However, his shot wasn't on target and it flew above the goal which was guarded by Buric that night.
A few minutes later the other side had a good goal-scoring opportunity. Volkov sent a precise cross into the penalty area and Gajos redirected the ball towards the goal with a header, but the shot was blocked by a defender. Lech's player recovered the ball, but his abrupt, instinctive shot was easily stopped by the goalkeeper.
Lech's offensive actions ended with a goal in the 38th minute. Jevtic was the one to execute a corner kick; his first cross was cleared out by Matusiak, but the second attempt was extraordinarily converted into a goal by Volkov who was in the right place at the right time. It was the first goal for the Serbian since he joined the team from Poznan.
Shortly after the referee resumed the match, the hosts had another goal-scoring opportunity. Jevtic's shot from outside the penalty area was strong and pretty accurate, but eventually it stopped on the post. On the other side of the pitch Fidziukiewicz tried to surprise Buric with a shot from an acute angle, but the goalkeeper was cautious. Buric had to intervene again a few minutes later when the same forward attempted to beat the goalkeeper with a shot from outside the penalty area. Again, Buric made no mistake.
Lech remained in control of the play and every once in a while attacked more intesively. Nonetheless, Zaglebie Sosnowiec had a few chances to score too. Fidziukiewicz was the player that finished Zaglebie's offensive actions most of the time. And as the minutes passed, the guests began dominating the game. Nevertheless, none of their attacks ended with the ball in the back of the net.
Lech resumed its offensive actions in the closing minutes of the match. In the 88th minute Jozwiak decided for an individual run which he finished off with a parallel pass to Bille, but the Dane wasn't quick enough and failed to tap the ball into the net. The same forward could have scored once again a few minutes later, but this time he decided for a pass, not a shot and the action went to waste.
