In the last sparing match of the winter training camp, Lech Poznan drew with Ujpest Budapest 1:1. Radoslaw Majewski scored the only goal for Lech.
The two teams struggled to control the match in the opening minutes. Open offensive football led to multiple goal scoring chances and Lech was the first one to cause trouble to their opponent’s defensive line. In the 13th minute, a corner kick resulted in a good chance to score for Tomczyk, but the goalkeeper’s last-minute save stopped the ball from rolling into the net. Ujpest responded with Andric’s individual offensive run, but Wilusz intervened at the right time.
Gradually Lech played better and better and soon started to control the play. In the 26th minute, the Polish team took the lead. A counterattack led by Tomczyk was finished off by Robak who fired a strong shot at the goal. The goalkeeper intervened, but he failed to catch the ball and Majewski’s shot was impossible for the keeper to save. 3 minutes later Majewski could have added another goal to his account, but this time his attempt was off target.
It didn’t take long for the Hungarians to equalise. Bardhi’s shot was precise and despite Kedziora’s intervention, the footballer manager to lob Buric and place the ball in the back of the net. In the 38th minute, the forward got another goal scoring chance, however, this time his attempt was successfully stopped by Wilusz.
At halftime, Bjelica made a couple of changes in the squad and the substitutes appeared on the pitch. 7 new footballers came in and the formation changed to a one with a single forward only. Lech’s team was clearly focused on the offensive, but they needed to remain cautious because the Hungarians built a couple of dangerous counter attacks. Nevertheless, neither of the sides found a way to beat the opponent’s defence. Lech was in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, but that did not result in a goal.
Every now and then the team from Poznan had problems stopping Ujpest’s offensive actions. In the 67th minute they could have taken the lead when Cseke sent a cross into the box and Andric, who was unmarked in the penalty area, fired a shot at the goal, but luckily for Lech the shot flew above the crossbar. 3 minutes later the other team had an equally good goal scoring chance. This time Pawlowski found space to shoot from the 30th meter, but his decent attempt was stopped by the keeper.
The second half was less exhilarating than the first 45 minutes. A lot of the match took place in the midfield where the two teams struggled to take possession of the ball. In the 80th minute, Sankovic’s shot flew above the cross, while a couple of minutes later Puchacz, in a similar situation, did the same. Hazard’s individual run in the closing minutes of the match caused some problems to Lech’s defensive line, but he was successfully stopped by Buric and the game ended with a one-goal draw.
