In the second leg of II round of Champions League qualifications Lech Poznan won with FK Sarajevo at INEA Stadium 1:0, and therefore advanced to the next stage where the team from Poznan will face FC Basel.
The team from Poznan was meant to prove their good disposition and the ambition to play in group phase of European competition in the second leg of qualification against FK Sarajevo. Lech won in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2:0, and therefore had an advance ahead of the second game.
The opening minutes were dominated by Uscuplic's players, who attempted to break apart the opponent's defense line. However, Lech's solid defending successfully stopped Sarajevos attacks.
In the 5th minute INEA Stadium exploded in joy. The referee gave a free kick to Lech following a foul on Tralka just outside the penalty area. Douglas was the one who converted the free kick into a beautiful goal right into the corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
One could have predicted that Sarajevo would start attacking more intensely, since the Bosnian players were in a difficult situation, however most of the time the play took part in the midfield. Lech remained in control of the match, while adding goal attempts to the statistics. Pawlowski and Thomalla had a chance to change the result, however neither managed to do so.
In the second quarter of the match Uscuplic's players gave away the initiative to Lech with the sole aim to counterattack whenever they had a chance. Duljevic had a good opportunity to score a goal in the 23rd minute when Douglas slipped and Sarajevo's player could run down the right flank. However, Lech's goalkeeper did not let the player surprise him and he caught the ball without a problem.
Even though Lech was in a comfortable situation, the team from Poznan aimed at another goal. In the 29th minute Hamalainen's strong technical shot from outside the penalty area caused trouble to Ostrakovic, but in the end the ball did not fall into the back of the net thanks to the goalkeeper's successful intervention.
The end of the first half was undoubtedly dominated by the hosts. The referee added one additional minute, however the result remained unchanged until the halftime whistle.
Neither of the coaches made any substitutions at halftime. The Bosnians noted down their first good goal attempt in the 52nd minute when Alispahic sent a cross from the left flank right on Bekic's head. The midfielder redirected the ball towards the net, however the linesman raised the flag, signalizing an offside.
Skorza's player dominated more and more as the clock kept on ticking. The hosts had multiple goal attempts, but neither ended successfully. Lech's defense line looked remarkably well that night, not only when guarding the goal, but also when participating in the offensive actions.
In the 84th minute one of Lech's attack ended in a big threat to the guests. Jevtic lead the ball towards the goal at high pace and the midfielder used the open space in front of him and passed to Thomalla. The latter was left alone with the goalkeeper, however his shot was inaccurate and it missed the post.
A few minutes after, the German player had another opportunity to add a goal to his account when he received a long ball from Lovrencsics, but the goalkeeper of the guests turned out to be faster.
Lech kept the play under control till the referee's very last whistle, however despite having a few more chances to score the second goal, the result remained a one-goal advantage. The win allowed Lech to advance to the next round of Champions League qualifications where the team from Poznan will face the Swiss Champion, FC Basel.
