Lech Poznań slipped up in their Sunday league match. John van den Brom’s squad lost 1:3 in the clash with Widzew Łódź after conceding two goals in the added time.
Since the first whistle of the Sunday match, Lech did not present themselves well. Early into the game, Elias Andersson fouled Fabio Nunes inside the box in a seemingly unharmful situation and the guests were awarded a penalty kick. However, Jordi Sanchez’s shot was weak, and Bartosz Mrozek intervened well, therefore Lech avoided conceding a goal.
As the game did not change much following the goal-scoring opportunity wasted by Widzew, it was just a matter of time before the guests would strike. 16 minutes into the match, Fran Alvarez sent a precise shot right next to the post and into the back of the net, giving Widzew an advantage.
The hosts looked slightly better in the second half of the game, but it still wasn’t enough since their opponent did not slow down and kept on causing problems for the hosts’ defence. Just when it seemed that the fans gathered at Bułgarska Street wouldn’t witness more goals, the scoring began. Unfortunately for Lech and their supporters, only one of the goals was a reason to celebrate – in the 88th minute, Jesper Karlstrom equalized with a strong shot from outside the box.
Everyone expected Lech to turn the tables with the uplifting energy of the equalizer and the support coming from the stands, however, it was Widzew who ended up triumphing impressively. Antoni Klimek and Bartłomiej Pawłowski took advantage of Lech’s defensive errors and scored two goals, giving Widzew a win.
Lech will have an opportunity to make up for the loss on Saturday when they face Korona Kielce in an away game.
