Lech Poznań made another critical step towards the Europa Conference League group stage. On Thursday, John van den Brom’s players beat Spartak Trnava 2:1 in the 3rd qualifying round.
Before the Thursday match kicked off, it was already known that the Sunday league game with Jagiellonia would be postponed, which meant that John van den Brom didn’t have to rotate the squad to adjust to the intense schedule.
Since the first whistle, Lech dominated on the pitch, remaining in possession of the ball most of the time and creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities. Filip Marchwiński and Kristoffer Velde made the crowd rejoice as they both found the back of the net. For the latter, it was the first goal of the season in the international competition.
However, the hosts weren’t flawless that night and as a result, they conceded an unlucky goal. Lukas Steina beat Filip Bednarek, giving Spartak a better shot at turning the tables in the second leg. The two teams will face each other in the decisive game on Thursday night, at 8 pm, in Trnava.
