Lech - Miedź Legnica 3:2 (friendly)

Lech Poznań took advantage of the international break and on Thursday, John van den Brom’s squad played a friendly game against Miedź Legnica. The match took place on the side pitches located at Bułgarska Street and finished with a 3:2 win for the hosts. Afonso Sousa, Filip Wilak, and Mikael Ishak scored goals for Lech. In addition, Barry Douglas reappeared on the pitch for the first time since his injury.

The first part of the match belonged to Lech. The second-division team defended deeply, with all players involved in guarding the goal. Meanwhile, the hosts looked for ways to break down Miedź’s defensive line. Adriel Ba Loua was one of the most active players on the pitch – in the first 15 minutes of the game, he fired two shots at the opponent’s goal, one of which was an impressive, but slightly off target, attempt.

Lech’s starting line-up featured two strikers – Mikael Ishak and Artur Sobiech – and it’s this offensive duo that played a key role in Lech’s first goal. The Pole recovered the ball with pressing and passed the ball to the Swedish captain. The latter set up Afonso Sousa with a great pass and the young Portuguese placed the ball in the back of the net with a strong shot. However, before the referee announced halftime, Miedź surprised everyone with a goal of their own thanks to a successful attempt from Mehdi Lehaire.

In the second half, Lech quickly regained the lead. This time, Joel Pereira sent a great, flat from the right flank cross into the box and Filip Wilak intercepted the ball before firing a precise shot that flew past Miedź’s keeper. Not long later, the scoreboard once again displayed a draw. Lech’s ex-player, Kamil Drygas was the author of the goal. The hosts continued creating scoring chances. Although the final score wasn’t important, Lech impressed with numerous offensive attempts, one of which ended up setting the final score to 3:2. Pereira sent the ball over to the left flank, Wilak redirected it to Sobiech with his head and then the Polish striker found Ishak who left the goalkeeper helpless as he scored the winner.

From the coaching point of view, the important thing was for the squad to maintain a match rhythm. In addition, Barry Douglas made his first appearance on the pitch since he suffered an injury. Filip Dagerstål also reappeared in the squad after his unlucky clash with one of Raków's players in the recent league game (4:1). Moreover, coach John van den Brom let a few of Academy’s talented young stars appear on the field in the second half. Karol Kalata, Igor Draszczyk, Jan Niedzielski, and Aleksander Nadolski all got a few minutes in the friendly clash with Miedź.
