SL Benfica, Standard Liège and Rangers FC – these are the teams that Lech will face in Europa League group phase. Dates of the matches haven’t been announced yet.
Lech Poznań was drawn in Group D where – according to club rankings – SL Benfica is the toughest rival. The Portuguese team finished last season second and, therefore, could fight for a spot in Champions League group phase. However, PAOK turned out to be the better team in the fourth qualifying round of Champions League and, as a result, Benfica dropped down to Europa League group stage.
Lech is also going to face Standard Liège. The Belgians finished last season – which was cut shorter due to the pandemic – on the fifth rank and they were given a spot in the second round of Europa League qualifiers. The team from Liège successfully beat Bala Town (2:0), FK Vojvodina (2:1) and FC Fehérvár (3:1) and finally advanced to Europa League group stage.
Lech’s last rival will be Rangers FC – a Scottish team which – similarly to the Belgians – had to finish their last season early but since they were ranked second, they also started their fight for Europa League group phase from the second qualifying round. Neither Lincoln Red Imps FC (5:0), Willem II Tilburg (4:0), nor Galatasaray SK (2:1) managed to beat the Scottish side in the Europa League qualifiers.
UEFA agreed to reopen the stadiums for the Europa League games. In countries where the authorities allow it, stadiums will be able to fill up to 30% of its capacity.
