After an unexpected loss against Widzew Łódź (1:3), Lech travelled to Kielce to face the local team Korona. Despite only winning one away match this season, the team from Poznań triumphed 1:0 in the harsh weather conditions and added three important league points to their account.
Because of intense snowfall, the clash between Korona and Lech could have been postponed. Law enforcement services fought until the last minute to bring the pitch to an acceptable condition and referee Frankowski, together with the match delegate, decided to play the game as scheduled, despite the difficult weather conditions.
Even though the match wasn’t an easy one, Lech came close to scoring only a few minutes into the game. Ali Golizadeh, for whom it was a starting line-up debut, had a good chance to put his team in the lead, however, his shot was saved Xavier Dziekoński. Less than a minute later, Joel Pereira sent a precise cross to unmarked Adriel Ba Loua, but the winger’s attempt flew above the crossbar. It was an unlucky match for the player from the Ivory Coast as he slipped in the first half and was forced to be subbed off as a result of a shoulder injury.
Gradually the layer of snow on the pitch increased, making the second half even more challenging for both sides. Bartosz Mrozek intervened impressively twice when the opponent surprised him with a shot from outside the box. Finally, close to the final whistle, Lech turned the tables when Kristoffer Velde defeated Korona’s keeper with a signature, technical shot. The goal ended up being worth three important league points. In addition, Śląsk Wrocław failed to win their last PKO BP Ekstraklasa which enabled Lech to reduce the point difference.
