Jagiellonia Białystok - Lech Poznań 1:2
On Saturday, Lech Poznań defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 2:1 thanks to goals from Filip Marchwiński and Filip Szymczak. As a result of this win, Mariusz Rumak’s team is now just two points behind the current leader of PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
The Saturday match began a series of difficult clashes for Lech. The squad from Poznań travelled to Białystok where, until this weekend, no team has managed to defeat the hosts. The game was a real challenge for Mariusz Rumak’s squad, but since the first whistle, Lech kept showing that they could win three points. The players from Poznań effortlessly overcame Jagiellonia’s pressing which left plenty of space for their wingers to cause trouble to the hosts. It was Kristoffer Velde that first took advantage of the space on the flank – the Norwegian rushed into the box, sent a well-timed pass to Filip Marchwiński, and the latter beat Jagiellonia’s keeper with a shot from the 16th meter. The guests didn’t stop there – before the referee announced halftime, it was already 2:0 for Lech. As a result of Jose Naranjo’s handball, Mariusz Rumak’s team was awarded a penalty kick which Filip Szymczak converted into his second goal of the spring round.
The second half looked much different to the first part of the match. It was Jagiellonia that dominated in the offence and began causing problems for Lech’s defensive line. A goal from Kristoffer Hansen in the 82nd minute was a motivational boost for the hosts – they felt that a draw was within their reach. They even created a great goal-scoring opportunity, but Bartosz Mrozek intervened successfully and stopped Kaan Caliskaner’s flat shot, saving his team from losing important league points.
