For the first time in his career, Christian Gytkjaer was a part of Denmark’s starting line-up. It was Dane’s sixth match wearing the national shirt. The Scandinavian side was facing Gibraltar in the Euro 2020 qualifiers and Lech’s forward managed to place the ball in the back of the net twice.
For Lech’s fans, having Gytkjaer join the Danish national team during international breaks is very much expected, however, for the first time in his career, the forward was a part of Denmark’s first XI - in theEuro 2020 qualifier against Gibraltar.
Towards the end of the first half, the Danes were up by two goals, but Lech’s forward wasn’t involved in either of them. Nonetheless, Gytjkaer was very active on the pitch and came close to scoring in the 31st minute when his shot from within the box was saved by the keeper at the last moment. In the second half, Denmark continued dominating the match and the striker himself managed to place the ball in the net twice. First, in the 73rd minute, Eriksen’s shot from outside the box was saved by the keeper but Gytkjaer’s follow-up shot rolled into the back of the net. A couple of minutes later, Lasse Schone tried surprising Gibraltar’s goalkeeper with a strong shot but instead, his attempt turned into a pass and Gytkjaer converted it into a goal without much effort. The forward’s successful attempts set the final score to 6:0. In addition, for the first time in his career, Lech’s striker spent the whole 90 minutes on the pitch whilst wearing the Danish shirt.
It was Gytkjaer’s sixth international cap. Until the most recent match, he only scored once for Denmark – in the March Euro 2020 qualifiers against Switzerland – but now, having 3 goals on his account, his stats are a reason to be proud.
