Lech Poznań managed to beat FK Kauno Žalgiris 2:1 with an altered line-up and advanced to the 3rd qualification round of the Europa Conference League.
Having triumphed 3:1 in the first leg of the clash with Žalgiris, Lech knew that the match in Kaunas would be a formality, hence Johh van den Brom made a few changes in the line-up. Bartosz Mrozek and Filip Wilak appeared in the starting XI for the first time this season.
The young goalkeeper had a bit of work to do on Thursday evening, but he performed very well. He guarded the goal without making any errors. Only in the last minute of the match did Žalgiris manage to get the ball past Mrozek when it bounced off one of the players and surprised the goalkeeper with its trajectory.
However, the goal did not impact the match as it was already 2:0 for the Polish side. Shortly before halftime, Filip Marchwiński opened the goal scorer’s sheet with a precise header and then, in the second part of the game, Adriel Ba Loua scored another goal for Lech with a strong shot from inside the box.
The team from Poznań had an opportunity to change the score to 3:0 but Artur Sobiech failed to convert a penalty kick – his flat shot stopped on the post.
Lech’s next challenge is Spartak Trnava whom John van den Brom and his players will face in the 3rd qualification round of the Europa Conference League. The first leg will be played at Bułgarska Street on Thursday, whereas the second leg is scheduled for the following week.
