In the second match of Europa League group phase Lech Poznan lost with the Swiss Champions, FC Basel 0:2. Bjarnason and Embolo scored the goals for Basel.
The first half was far from exhilarating as neither of the teams had good goal-scoring opportunities, especially in the opening minutes, and therefore the game seemed mundane. In the 18th minute Arajuuri came close to scoring and own goal. However, Gostomski was cautious and he managed to save the shot. 5 minutes later Lech attacked Basel's goal. Jevtic left Elneny by the sideline and sent a cross into the penalty area, but neither of his teammates was there to redirect the ball into the net. On the other side of the pitch Breel Embolo caused trouble to the defense from Poznan. He was the player that created two very good goal-scoring opportunities for the hosts, but both end with a shot too weak to change the score and therefore when the referee whistled halftime, the scoreboard showed a goalless tie.
The second half ended very quickly for Karol Linetty who was sent off in the 49th minute. Having fouled Bjarnason, the Bosnian referee had no other choice than to show second yellow card and a red one, ending Linetty's performance for the night. That was the crucial moment and since then Basel began dominating the play. In the 55th minute Walter Samuel sent a great pass from his own half of the pitch and Bjarnason didn't have much trouble beating Gostomski and putting the ball in the back of the net. A few minutes later Arajuuri got a chance to equalize, but his shot wasn't on target. Shortly before referee's last whistle Embolo finished a good team action of the Swiss Champions with an accurate, confident shot, setting the score to 2:0.
