Further works around determining match schedules will be organised by UEFA. In accordance with the outlined decisions which can possibly affect the following two seasons, Ekstraklasa and Polish Football Association (PZPN) will cooperate in an attempt to create all possible scenarios regarding the national competition.
“We have realised that in order to finish the current season, not only did European Championships have to be postponed, but also the qualifiers for Champions League and Europa League which our Polish clubs were meant to participate in and which were scheduled for the first week of July. UEFA’s latest crucial decisions gave room for compromise,” explained Ekstraklasa’s Chairman, Marcin Animucki. “However, we need to keep in mind that resuming league competition and finishing the season is dependant on the situation in Poland, as well as PZPN’s and clubs’ decision. In the meantime, we are working with the clubs on solutions which will help minimise the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic on Polish football,” added Animucki.
Analogically to UEFA, Ekstraklasa has decided to establish a crisis committee which will work on solutions that can minimise the negative impact of coronavirus on the league competition. All clubs have already appointed their representatives who will form the committee. The group will be divided into sub-teams that will focus on the following aspects: legal, finance, marketing, and sports. Together with Ekstraklasa, their objective will be to prepare suggestions of extraordinary measures to be implemented in regards to the competition, player contract guidelines, match schedules, as well as licensing laws.
