Following a 3:3 draw in the league clash with Jagiellonia Białystok, Lech’s squad travelled to Cracow to face the local Cracovia. The objective was to get back on the winning track, however, John van den Brom’s players were once again forced to share points with their opponent, as the game ended in a 1:1 tie.
The first half of the clash with Cracovia resembled the Tuesday game – Lech was in control of the match, stayed in possession of the ball for most of the time, and created goal-scoring opportunities. Kristoffer Velde came close to changing the score twice – his first attempt was barely stopped by Cracovia’s keeper, whereas his next shot hit the crossbar. Finally, in the added time of the first half, the 24-year-old converted one of the opportunities into a goal with a precise shot from outside the box that was impossible to stop for the keeper.
In the second half, the tables have turned. The hosts regained control of the game and forced Lech to move back deep and defend their goal. Similarly to the clash with Jagiellonia, John van den Brom’s players failed to keep a clean sheet. Cornel Rapa, who came in from the bench, sent a perfect cross to Virgil Ghita and the defender redirected the ball into Lech’s goal. The match ended in a 1:1 draw and the two sides had to share league points. On Tuesday, the squad from Poznań will have an opportunity to bounce back when they face Zawisza Bydgoszcz in the second round of the Fortuna Polish Cup.
