Lech's away league clash with Cracovia did not go according to plan. The relatively unexciting match ended in a goalless draw.
Before the referee initiated the match, Lech’s coach John van den Brom already had to face a few issues related to the defensive line as his first-choice defenders – Filip Dagerstal and Lubomir Satka – were out due to injuries. As a result, Antonio Milic and Alan Czerwiński were positioned as the center-backs.
The defensive duo had a lot of work during the Sunday match, and so did goalkeeper Filip Bednarek whose interventions saved Lech from conceding a goal numerous times. Especially impressive was Bednarek’s intervention from the first half when he stopped Patryk Makucha’s beautiful shot directed at the corner of the goal. Cracovia’s player came close to scoring again in the first half but his shot from bicycle kick was slightly off target.
On the other end of the pitch, Mikael Ishak had a few good opportunities to score, but all of them were wasted by the striker. First, his shot was blocked by one of Cracovia’s defenders, and then the Swede failed to beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.
The goalless draw places Lech in the 7th position in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table. In the following league round, John van den Brom’s squad will face Raków Częstochowa. However, before that happens, the team from Poznań is going to fly to Vienna where they will play against Austria in the Europa Conference League at Franz Horr Stadion (6:45 pm).
