Lech Poznań drew the mid-week clash with Zagłębie Lubin. It’s Lech’s 9th tie this season and the points they’ve collected so far rank them 4th in the league table. The team from Poznań finished the match in 10 men following a red card for Janicki.
Lech’s aim was to take control of the match in the opening minutes, but Zagłębie was more successful in building offensive actions, especially following set pieces. In the 10th minute, the hosts were awarded a corner kick that Balić finished off with a header. Luckily for Lech, Putnocky caught the ball in time. On the other end of the pitch, Situm tried surprising Zagłębie’s goalkeeper, but his attempt was off target.
For long periods of time, Lech was in possession of the ball, however, the team from Poznań struggled to come close to their rival’s box. Constant passing did not result in goal scoring opportunities. In the 23rd minute, Majewski spotted Gumny who was left unmarked, the right-back rushed into the box, but his key pass was inaccurate and instead of reaching one of his teammates, the ball flew towards the stands.
Zagłębie got their best scoring chance shortly before halftime. Pawłowski crossed the ball into the box and Kopacz redirected it towards the goal with a strong header. Putnocky managed to save the shot at the last moment. 2 minutes later responded with their first shot on target which was also stopped by the keeper.
Lech dominated the opening minutes of the second half. In the 46th minute, Trałka fired a shot at Zagłębie’s goal, but Janus managed to redirect the shot. Shortly afterward, Majewski’s attempt from a free kick was easily stopped by the goalkeeper.
Bjelica made a number of substitutions in the second half and Jozwiak, together with Barkroth, appeared on the pitch. The two wingers were supposed to play key roles in Lech’s offensive actions, but before they got the chance to prove themselves, both had to move into the defensive. Pawłowski rushed into the box and collided with Dilaver. The referee awarded Zagłębie with a penalty kick, but after seeing the replay, he took back his decision.
In the last 15 minutes of the match, Zagłębie dominated on the pitch. Pawłowski and Czerwiński were very active on both wings. The latter had a good scoring chance in the 83rd minute, but his attempt was blocked by Jóźwiak. Lech was forced to move back into the defensive and guard their goal – a task which became even more difficult when Janicki received a second yellow card. Despite playing in 10 men only, Lech could have won the match, but Barkroth’s shot hit one of Zagłębie’s players.
