In the 28th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech drew with Zagłębie Lubin 3:3. The team from Poznań managed to bounce back from a 1:3 score following goals from Gytjkaer, Kamiński, and Ramirez.
The two sides approached the match in different moods. Zagłębie beat Pogoń Szczecin 3:0 in their first league game after the long break, however, Lech failed to win against Legia Warsaw. Even though it seemed that the opening minutes would be relatively slow and mundane, in the 10th minute Starzyński acted cleverly in Lech’s box, exploiting Kamiński’s inexperience and letting the youngster foul him in the penalty area. The same player effortlessly converted the opportunity into a goal.
It was a harsh wake-up call for Lech and the team finally put a bigger emphasis on the offensive. However, as soon as the squad from Poznań started causing real problems to Zagłębie’s defensive line, it turned out that Hładun is having a great day and getting the ball past him was going to be extraordinarily hard. First, the hosts’ goalkeeper successfully saved Ramirez’s strong and precise shot, and then, a few minutes later, his impressive intervention saved Zagłębie from conceding a goal after Gytkjaer tried heading the ball in the net. In the next offensive attempt, Muhar tried surprising the keeper but his strong shot also wasn’t enough. It seemed to be a matter of time before Lech was going to equalize. A couple of minutes later, the inevitable happened and Gytkjaer beat the goalkeeper after receiving a well-timed long ball from Ramirez.
Still, Lech’s joy didn’t last long because it took Zagłębie only 5 minutes to take the lead again. Živec changed the score to 2:1 with a header and Czerwiński – who is going to join Lech in the summer – added an assist to his account. From that moment on, Zagłębie was in control of the game. Van der Hart was forced to intervene a few times, e.g. after Białek fired a strong shot at the goal. The mentioned offensive attempt resulted in another penalty kick for the hosts, this time it was awarded to Zagłębie after Kostevych touched the ball with his hand when trying to block a cross. Starzyński once again converted the penalty kick into a goal, although this time van der Hart came close to stopping him. Lech had two good chances to change the score to 3:2 before halftime but Šatka’s shot stopped on the crossbar and Muhar’s follow-up shot was caught by the keeper.
Moder and Marchwiński were sent in for the second half in hope that they can help turn around the situation. For the first few minutes, not much happened; Lech tried attacking but they lacked ideas on how to do it whereas Zagłębie waited for chances to counterattack. In the 60th minute, Ramirez decided to try and surprise the hosts’ keeper with an unexpected shot but it wasn’t enough to beat Hładun. In the meantime, Żuraw was sent off to the stands by the referee. 15 minutes before the final whistle, Moder’s slightly imprecise shot from a free kick which stopped on the post gave Lech a boost of motivation and initiated a wave of offensive attempts.
First, Kostevych helped Kamiński score a beautiful, debut goal which changed the score to 3:2, and within a few minutes, the team from Poznań equalized after being awarded a penalty kick. Guldan’s handball wasn’t initially spotted by the referee, however, after seeing the replays, he punished Zagłębie and Ramirez converted the opportunity into an equalizer. Despite successfully catching up with the rival, Lech couldn’t beat Zagłębie, therefore the two teams had to share points.
