“I have been positively impressed by the recent month I spent in Poznan, especially by the people’s interest in football. During many games we played in the attendance was high. For instance, in the last clash with Arka, the number of fans watching form the stands was higher than in 5 recent Austrian matches combined,” said Nenad Bjelica, Lech’s new coach.
The team led by Bjelica drew in the match with Arka 0:0. Despite an indisputable domination over the rival, Lech failed to score a winner and collect the three, important points. “I hope that in the upcoming games we are going to play better. In the last 15 matches Lech was in possession of the ball for 80% of the time. It shows the team’s determination to win. On the other hand, you could see that we lacked energy and freshness in the closing minutes of the last league game,” explained the Croatian coach.
Abdul Aziz Tetteh was highly praised after the clash with Arka. The midfielder had only a single inaccurate pass in the whole game. “Tetteh played a great game, but there is still room for improvement. He is a very important part of the team, but you can say the same about any other footballer that is a part of the starting line-up,” highlighted Bjelica, who’s recently also praised Lukasz Tralka.
Most probably the Friday match with Gornik Leczna is going to look similar to the recent clash with Ekstraklasa’s newcomer. “I don’t know how Gornik is going to play. However, I know how we are going to play. Nevertheless, I do not want to disclose the details. It is something that only me, my staff and the team are going to be familiar with,” explained Bjelica. “We do know though what we have to do if Gornik plays the way Arka did on Sunday. We are prepared for different scenarios,” added the coach.
The one thing that Lech lacked in the game against Arka was efficiency in the offensive. It was the first game since Bjelica was hired in which the team from Poznan failed to score a goal. Nonetheless, the coach is not overly worried about the statistics. “I believe we play well in the offensive. We scored 7 goals in the last 4 matches. In the games with Lechia and Ruch we had a number of goal-scoring opportunities, which shows that we are good at building them. Of course, we need a different strategy when the rival focuses on the defensive solely, and we still have a lot to work on” said Bjelica.
