"I not only think that this was our best performance in an away game, but also the best match of the season so far. We played good football and we were full of positive energy. We can be satisfied with our performance, but not with the final score, which makes it bittersweet," commented Rafal Janicki after the Sunday clash with Legia Warsaw.
The players agree that there was an indisputable difference between their performance in Warsaw, and in Kielce. The footballers pinpoint a number of factors that might have influenced it. “After the away game against Korona, we had a long discussion in the dressing room about our current situation. We asked ourselves what we wanted to achieve and how we wanted to play. We also agreed that each one of us needs to give their best,” explained Mario Situm. “Therefore, I am glad that we showed it on the pitch during the Sunday match. Football is unpredictable, and even playing the way we did on Sunday you can lose a game before winning the next nine,” added the Croatian who joined Lech last summer.
Lech’s captain, Maciej Gajos, highlighted the second half of the match against Legia. “That’s how we want to play always, in every match. Our goal will be to ensure that this is how we perform in the future games,” said the 26-year-old midfielder. “The last-minute win against Slask gave us a lot. As a result, today, even after conceding a goal early during the game, we were able to bounce back and aim not only for a draw but also for a win,” added Lech’s captain.
“We are disappointed because we deserved much more. A number of small factors have decided about the final score of the Sunday clash, but it’s important to highlight that we performed better than our rival,” said Christian Gytkjaer who scored the goal for Lech. His teammate, Janicki, agrees with the Dane. “We managed to dominate the opponent, and the more scoring chances we built, the more positive I felt. There are a lot of matches left until the end of the season and if we perform the way we did in Warsaw, we will climb up the ladder,” added the defender who has played in 19 matches so far this season.
Lukasz Tralka also noticed the improvement in Lech’s performance. According to the midfielder, it was the team’s response to Legia’s early goal that played a key role. “We didn’t give up. We moved on from the goal, caught up, and ensured we controlled the second half of the game. Against Slask we played better in the second half, but while facing Pogon, we were better in the first part of the match. The Sunday game might be an indicator of our improving performance,” added the 33-year-old.
Meanwhile, Situm was praising his teammates generously despite a poor result. The player was also happy with the match schedule and the upcoming games which will decide about the Championship title. “This is the way to do it – we fought until the end and showed how passionate we are about the club. Now the match is history, tomorrow is a new day, and we await the future impatiently. 11 games are enough to catch up with our rivals. We still have a shot at the Championship,” emphasized the midfielder.
