For the past three weeks, Lech’s players have been bound to homes. The suspension of league competition has been extending, therefore the coaching staff decided to reduce the intensity of the training program and let the players rest. The coaches emphasise that before league resume, they will need time to get the squad back in shape.
The ongoing pandemic makes it unable for Lech’s coaching staff to organise group training sessions which makes their job much harder. However, the coaches have heard rumours about a possible date when the league games will resume. “This and the upcoming week will be a more relaxed one since the optimistic scenario involves getting back on the Ekstraklasa pitches at the end of May. That means we have plenty of time whilst we wait hoping to hear that this scenario will come into life,” explained Karol Kikut, Lech’s fitness coach.
As a result of the current situation, the coaching staff decided to reduce the intensity of individual training sessions whilst ensuring that the players will maintain a fitness level that will enable them to return to normal schedule quickly. “We didn’t want to keep the players alerted and ready to go for such a long time. We gave them individual training suggestions for them to do at home. However, we won’t be controlling the squad as closely. It’s up to the players to stay fit, but only until next week – that’s when a more intense training schedule will resume,” highlighted Kikut.
Due to such a long break from normal training sessions and matches, the winter training camp in Turkey has lost its significance in the context of the players’ current fitness level. Whenever PKO Ekstraklasa resumes, the coaches will need time to prepare the squad for regular games. “Such a long break means that all the work we did in Turkey has been partially lost. We won’t be able to repeat what we did in Belek. Nonetheless, whenever the date of league’s resumption is announced, we will organise a second training camp – here in Poznan – to prepare adequately,” explained the fitness coach.
Towards the end of next week, Lech’s coaching staff will take further decisions in accordance with the current circumstances and pandemic-related regulations. If the outlined optimistic scenario becomes a reality, Lech will have a few intense months ahead of them.
