The last weeks of the autumn round are measured through international breaks. Whenever the national teams gather their players, clubs finally get a chance to breathe and prepare carefully for the upcoming league games. Lech Poznań has just kicked off the last league run of the season. Having beaten Piast Gliwice (1:0), the team from Greater Poland has 5 more games to play in 2021, 3 of which are scheduled within the span of 8 days.
It’s the last match marathon for Lech in 2021. On Sunday, the team from Poznań will face their local rival – Warta – at home (3 pm). Then, on Wednesday, December 1st, at a very unusual time (11:45 am), Lech is going to compete in Fortuna Polish Cup against Garbania Cracow. Next, Lech has an away PKO BP Ekstraklasa clash scheduled, against Zagłębie Lubin. Interestingly, the third-tier team from Cracow will get an extra day of rest between the Polish Cup game and their league match.
Nonetheless, there are no reasons to worry about the players’ fitness – Lech's squad underwent comprehensive medical tests during the recent international break.
“The results are good. Of course, the level of tiredness varies from player to player, but that is perfectly normal at this stage of the season. Some have more energy, others less. Our job is to adjust the workload adequately so that all players make it to winter holidays,” explained Lech’s coach, Maciej Skorża.
Interestingly, this autumn round, Lech has a total of 22 matches scheduled, unlike last year when the team from Poznań played 26 games through the second half of 2020. The main two differences are that the 2020/2021 season kicked off later – on August 15th – which meant that Lech has to play all the games within a shorter period of time and also this season, the rules have changed - there are only 14 league rounds to be played in the autumn round, not 19. In addition, in this current campaign, Lech hasn’t competed in the Europa League playoffs and group stage which has decreased the overall workload for the squad from Poznań.
