The Friday clash with Śląsk Wrocław wasn’t an easy one for Lech Poznań, but a second-half goal from Michał Skóraś helped Skorża’s squad win three important league points.
Lech’s troubles have begun prior to the first whistle as Mikael Ishak was ruled unfit to play due to an illness. Without the captain on the pitch, the team from Poznań struggled to break down Śląsk’s solid defensive line. Overall, the first half was rather uneventful, slow, and scarce in goal-scoring opportunities.
Only in the second half, when Joel Pereira and Michał Skóraś appeared on the pitch, did Lech start causing problems to Śląsk’s defense. Shortly after appearing on the pitch, the 22-year-old winger led an attack down the right flank which Jakub Kamiński nearly converted into a goal – he was stopped at the last moment by one of the hosts.
Just a few moments later, Lech found the back of the net. Skóraś once again played a key role in the offensive attempt – he won the ball back from Szymon Lewkot and, with a strong flat, shot, beat the goalkeeper.
The team from Poznań had a couple more good goal-scoring opportunities but they lacked precision in their attempts, hence the final score was a modest, one-nil win.
Pogoń Szczecin and Raków Częstochowa also beat their opponents this weekend which means that despite the win, Lech remains 3rd in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table.
In the next league round, Lech Poznań will face Legia Warsaw at home. The clash is scheduled for April 9th, 5:30 pm. However, before Skorża’s squad faces the rival from the capital, they will play in the semifinals of the Fortuna Polish Cup – on Tuesday, at 6 pm, Lech is going to compete against Olimpia Grudziądz.
