After a 7-month break, Bartosz Salamon reappeared on the pitch. The defender recovered from an injury that he suffered during a national team game and made his first appearance on the pitch in the last group match of the Europa Conference League, against Villarreal (3:0).
In the last season, Salamon was one of Lech’s most important players. He even received an award for PKO BP Ekstraklasa’s best defender. However, an injury that he suffered in Poland’s friendly game against Scotland (1:1) ruled him out for nearly 8 months.
“It was a day full of emotions for the whole city, our team, and me. I returned to the match squad after a very long break which was a reason for me to rejoice. I am also happy that the match turned out the way it did and that a safe score enabled me to appear on the pitch for a brief moment. It was a great day for the whole city,” said the defender.
The 31-year-old came in for the last minutes of Lech’s clash with Villarreal (3:0). The defender replaced Nika Kvekveskiri and received loud applause from the fans gathered at Bułgarska Street. “It was an amazing moment for me. I was moved. Moments like this give me incredible energy and motivation to keep working hence I would like to thank sincerely the people gathered at the stadium who chanted my name because it was truly a special moment for me,” explained Salamon.
Lech has two matches left to play this year. On Sunday, the Polish Champions will face Korona Kielce at home, and then they will end the autumn league round with a match against Jagiellonia Białystok. “I feel well, but I need to be realistic about the situation. There are other players on my team who are in great shape so there is no need for me to get too excited. The most important objective is to win 6 league points in the next two games. The coach will surely select the best players in the best form. I am ready, training as hard as I can, and I am hoping to get a chance. However, for now, all that matters is that we win points,” added Lech’s defender.
