During the winter transfer window, Lech signed a new winger – the 22-year-old Kristoffer Velde. The Norwegian player’s primary position is on the wing, where he will fight for a spot in the starting line-up with three other Lech Poznań wingers.
One of Lech’s key strengths this season are the flanks. The wingers, supported by the defenders behind them, have turned out to be the driving force behind Lech’s wins. The match against Wisła Cracow (5:0) is a perfect example of a game where the wings played the key role. During the autumn round, Jakub Kamiński, Adriel Ba Loua and Michał Skóraś appeared on the two flanks of Lech’s line-up. Occasionally, Skorża and his coaching staff also positioned Joao Amaral and Dani Ramirez on either side of the pitch.
For Jakub Kamiński, the autumn round was one of the highlights of his career. Not only did the 19-year-old play a major role in the team’s successes, but he was also one of the best players in the league. The list of Lech’s wingers has recently increased by one more name – Kristoffer Velde.
“We will see how Kristoffer settles in and whether he will need extra time to accommodate. Every player is different – some debut and immediately look as though they have been playing in the league for years, others have a longer adaptation period. We are hoping that since his very first game, Kristoffer will be able to display his talent. For us coaches, there is nothing better than good rivalry within the squad. We have a strong team, and each substitute is a valuable player that can make a difference when coming in from the bench,” explained Assistant Coach, Rafał Janas.
During the training camp in Belek, Turkey the coaching staff tested various tactical variants, and in each of the four friendly games, a different pair of wingers was put in the starting line-up. “We are looking at different solutions. We practiced playing with two right-footed wingers, but there is also the left-footed Ba Loua, hence we have many different variants and we can adjust the line-up depending on the rival and the match. We also have youth players – such as Jakub Antczak – who we take into consideration for this position. We are really happy to have so many choices and be able to rotate players depending on the situation. That was the objective – for our versatility to be our key strength. Now we are able to change tactics as we go, especially when it comes to the wings,” highlighted coach Janas.
