The Saturday clash was a display of Lech’s potential. The team from Poznań beat Pogoń Szczecin – the leader of PKO BP Ekstraklasa –3:0 and regained their position at the top of the league table.
Prior to the match in Szczecin, it was Pogoń that was ranked 1st in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table, whereas Lech was 2nd, just one point behind. Hence, the stakes of the Saturday game were very high. In the first half, unsurprisingly, both teams played cautiously, making sure their opponent didn’t have too much space. As a result, the fans didn’t see many goal-scoring opportunities.
However, the second half was a display of Lech’s potential. Within 5 minutes, the team from Poznań found the back of the net 3 times. First, in the 70th minute, Radosław Murawski crossed the ball into the box where Jakub Kamiński was waiting. The latter redirected it towards Mikael Ishak and Lech’s captain effortlessly converted it into a goal.
Shortly after it was already 2:0 for Skorża’s team – this time, Joel Pereira got an assist whereas Dawid Kownacki turned his impressive pass into a precise shot. The players from Poznań set the final score to 3:0 with a well-executed penalty kick by Mikael Ishak.
Shortly before the final whistle, Adriel Ba Loua could have added another goal to Lech’s account, but this time Stipic intervened confidently.
The win helped Lech regain the position of the leader. On Sunday next week, Skorża’s players will play another difficult game – against Raków Częstochowa who is currently ranked 3rd. However, before Lech faces Raków, on Wednesday they will play in the round of 8 of the Fortuna Polish Cup against Górnik Zabrze.
