18 youth and senior footballers competing for Lech Poznan have been called up for their national teams. 7 of them play for the first team. See who and when will appear on the international pitches in the upcoming days.
First national team matches are scheduled for Tuesday - that’s when Mermaid Cup (Puchar Syrenki) – a friendly U-17 tournament – will begin. The Polish side will face the Hungarians at 5 pm. The next games will take place on Thursday (August 31st) and Saturday (September 2nd).
In addition, U-18, U-19 and U-21 national teams have a number of upcoming matches. In total 11 Lech Poznan players have a chance to compete for the Polish youth national teams. U-18s and U-19s will play friendly matches, while the U-21 team will begin European Championship qualifications. Moreover, on Sunday the youngsters will play against Lech Poznan.
Maciej Makuszewski and Deniss Rakels have also been called up for their national teams and might play in the World Cup qualifiers. The Polish winger and his teammates will face Denmark and Kazakhstan, while the Latvian national team will compete against the Hungarians and the Swiss. The Poles are very close to qualifying for the World Cup, however, the Latvians are currently ranked last in their group and have no chance of taking part in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Lech’s next league match is scheduled for September 9th (Saturday), at 6 pm, against Pogon Szczecin.
