Twelve Lech Poznań players have been called up by their national teams, among them six first-team footballers.
Ahead of Lubomir Šatka and his national teammates are key games in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Slovakia will face Croatia – who is first in the table – and Russian – the group vice leaders – in the October international break. Šatka and his squad are currently ranked third in group H, with 4 points less on their account than Croatia, and in order to compete in the playoffs, they need to win the upcoming two games.
Nika Kvekveskiri has also joined his national team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after a 4-month break from the international competition. Georgia has two games to play – against Green and Kosovo. However, Kvekveskiri’s squad is ranked last in group B which means they no longer have a chance to play at the World Cup in Qatar.
Jakub Kamiński, Michał Skóraś, Filip Marchwiński and Filip Szymczak have all been called up by Maciej Stolarczyk for the U-21 European Championship qualifiers. The latter – who is currently on loan at GKS Katowice – received a late invitation to join the Polish U-21 squad as Dennis Jastrzembski was deemed unfit to play because of an injury. During the October break, the U-21 squad will face Hungary and San Marino. They need to win both matches as they have, so far, only got one win which ranks them 3rd in group B.
Meanwhile, the Polish U-19 side is about to kick off the qualifiers for the next year’s Euro. Krzysztof Bąkowski (currently on loan at Stomil Olsztyn), Filip Borowski and Krystian Palacz all have received an invite to attend the U-19 grouping during which the squad will play against Finland, Malta and Ukraine.
The U-17 Polish national team is also fighting to get a spot at the European Championship in their category. Coach Dariusz Gęsior called up Maksymilian Dziuba, Bartosz Tomaszewski and Mikołaj Tudruja, all of whom represent Lech’s older juniors’ team. The Polish youngsters’ schedule includes matches against North Macedonia, Andorra and Ireland.
