Lech Poznan lost to Legia Warsaw (0:1) in the 8th league round of the season.
Cafu was the first player to fire a shot on target that Sunday night, but his attempt was easily stopped by Lech’s keeper Putnocky. Shortly afterward, the team from Poznan came close to scoring too when Gytkjaer received a precise pass from Jozwiak, but Dane’s attempt was inaccurate. Similarly, Tiba’s header from a couple of minutes later was off target.
For the next dozen or so minutes, most of the game took place in the midfield where the two teams struggled to take control of the match until in the 31st minute, Legia converted a scoring chance into a goal. Lech’s defensive error resulted in a one-on-one situation for Nagy who ran past Putnocky and placed the ball in the back of the net. Lech took control of the ball after conceding the goal but Amaral, in a similar goal-scoring situation, failed to score an equalizer and the referee ended the first half soon afterward.
In the second half, Legia was a bit more active in the offensive but most of their scoring chances were successfully stopped by Putnocky who saved a couple of dangerous shots, including Cafu’s attempt from a short distance. In the 55th minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty kick which was then canceled after video verification. For the next 20 minutes, the two teams found it problematic to take control of the ball and create scoring chances. Lech lacked precision in the last phase of their counterattacks which made it hard for them to equalize.
15 minutes before the final whistle, Radovic fired a dangerous shot at the goal but once again, Putnocky intervened impressively. Lech dominated the closing minutes of the game and built a few scoring chances but neither Tomczyk’s attempt, not Gytkjaer's header were good enough to earn a draw. Before the referee ended the match, Gajos sent the ball flying slightly above the crossbar, which meant that the team from Poznan returned home without any points.
