Lech beat Wisła Cracow 5:0 in the 8th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Mikael Ishak, Joao Amaral, Adriel Ba Loua and Pedro Rebocho scored goals for the team from Poznań. For the latter, it was an official debut on the Polish pitches.
On Friday evening, over 27 thousand fans came to support Lech in the clash with Wisła – the highest attendance in the 2021/22 season, so far. The players rewarded their supporters with a great spectacle and an impressive score. The hosts dominated indisputably, which was reflected in Wisła’s inability to fire a single shot on target throughout the whole match. For the first 20 minutes, Mickey van der Hart confidently guarded the goal, however, an injury forced Filip Bednarek to replace the Dutch keeper on the pitch. As a result of the injury, the fans won’t see van der Hart for at least two weeks.
Joao Amaral was the one to open the goalscorers’ sheet on Friday evening with a strong shot in the 29th minute which left Wisła’s keeper helpless. Shortly before halftime, Lech changed the score to 2:0 thanks to Adriel Ba Loua who converted an impressive team attempt into a goal from a close distance. It was the winger’s first goal for the team from Poznań in what was his second official game for Lech.
Lech didn’t slow down in the second half. First, Rebocho – for whom the Friday game was a debut – converted Amaral’s pass into the third goal. Then, shortly later, in one of Lech’s counterattacks, Amaral set up Ishak with a perfect pass and the latter effortlessly found the back of the net. Lech’s captain set the final score to 5:0 with a well-executed penalty kick which Lech was awarded for Szota’s handball in the box.
As a result of the impressive win, Lech secured their position as the leader. After 8 rounds, the team from Poznań has 18 points on their account – 4 more than Śląsk Wrocław and 5 more than Pogoń Szczecin and Lechia Gdańsk. Lech will play their next league game against Jagiellonia Białystok on Friday, September 24th, at 8:30 pm.
