On Saturday evening, Lech Poznań confidently beat Stal Mielec 3:1 and won their third match in a row. Daniel Hakans scored his first goal for Lech.
After the impressive, 3:0 triumph over Pogoń Szczecin, Niels Frederiksen and his squad welcomed Stal Mielec at Bułgarska Street. The hosts knew they needed to win to hold onto the leader’s seat. The match was equally important for the guests who are fighting to avoid relegation.
Lech’s players were determined to get the job done as quickly as possible, hence they kicked off the game at a high pace. Jakub Mądrzyk was kept busy by Lech’s scoring attempts and he successfully stopped the ball from falling into the net but only until the 21st minute – that’s when Rasmus Carstensen scored his second goal for Lech. Less than 60 seconds later, Daniel Hakans tapped the ball into the net and changed the score to 2:0. Stal responded with a goal of their own shortly before halftime when Robert Dadok redirected Krystian Getinger’s cross from a corner kick into Bartosz Mrozek’s net.
Early in the second half, Lech proved their dominance with a third successful attempt. This time, Afonso Sousa intercepted Stal’s imprecise pass and beat Mądrzyk with a beautiful shot from outside the box. Niels Frederiksen’s squad held onto the two-goal advantage until the final whistle and is now back at the top of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table.
