On Sunday Lech Poznan beat Pogon Szczecin at home 2:0. Robak and Tralka scored the goals that helped Lech collect 3 points and secure the 2nd rank in the league table.
Lech’s aim to continue the series of league wins was evident from the very first minute of the Sunday clash. The hosts were concentrated on the offensive and with high pressing, they managed to create a couple of good goal scoring opportunities. In the 4th minute Radut’s cross from the corner kick reached Tralka, but luckily for Pogon, the latter’s shot stopped on the crossbar.
Lech remained in possession of the ball for the majority of the time whilst Pogon focused on guarding their goal. For long period of the game, Pogon was defending with 11 players which made Lech’s task a bit harder. In the 21st minute the guests even managed to build a dangerous counterattack. Listkowski raced towards Lech’s goal and sent the ball to Kort who was entering the box. However, Wilusz intercepted the pass at the right moment and cleared the threat.
Lech was indisputably the better team on the pitch and the statistics proved that. In the 28th minute Wilusz’s good volley shot was stopped by Pogon’s goalkeeper – another shot on target that failed to fall into the back of the net. A couple of minutes later the goalkeeper had to intervene again, this time to stop Makuszewski’s attempt. However, Lech was relentless and they finally succeeded in the 35th minute. A free kick awarded to Lech caused chaos in Pogon’s box and Robak was the one who not only reached the ball, but also managed to redirect it into the back of the net with a clever shot.
After halftime Lech continued pressing on Pogon’s defensive line in search of another goal. In the 52nd minute the hosts came close to scoring when Majewski’s shot from a free kick hit the post. However, as the minutes passed Pogon managed to build more and more offensive actions. Gyurcso caused problems to Lech’s defenders and the goalkeeper, but his attempts weren’t successful.
While Pogon moved towards Lech’s box, they also left space for the team from Poznan to attack. One of Lech’s quick offensive actions ended with a second goal. Makuszewski sent a well-timed pass to Kedziora who raced into the box and left the ball for Tralka. The captain successfully placed the ball in the goal. A moment later Makuszewski had a chance of his own when he dribbled past two defenders and raced into Pogon’s penalty area, but his final pass was inaccurate.
Lech had a few similar scoring chances before the final whistle, but the lack of precision was the decisive factor. In the 80th minute Tralka had another opportunity to score, but this time his header flew over the crossbar. Kedziora could have added another goal to his account as well, but his shot from a distance was easily saved by the goalkeeper. Since neither of the teams managed to score before final time, it was Lech that eventually collected 3 points and secure the 2nd rank in the league table.
