Lech Poznan won in the 7th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa. The team from Poznan beat Piast Gliwice 2:0 at home. Formella and Gajos scored the goals for Lech.
The hosts performed better in the opening minutes. In the 5th minute, the team from Poznan built a counterattack. Pawlowski passed to Majewski, while the latter sent a cross into the penalty area that Robak should have redirected into the net, but the forward was late. 8 minutes later Robak was the one to pass and Pawlowski to finish off the offensive action, but the latter’s shot was stopped by the goalkeeper.
Despite indisputable domination and a number of decent goal-scoring opportunities, once again Lech was unable to score. Meanwhile, the hosts’ defensive line had to remain cautious. Maslowski and Bukata could have scored for Piast, but their attempts were off target. The guests attacked with a few players only which did not allow Lech to counterattack.
Nevertheless, Lech had an idea how to pass Piast’s defensive line. In the 28th minute Gumny sent a precise cross into the penalty area and if it wasn’t for the goalkeeper’s great intervention, the score would have changed. 6 minutes later Jevtic converted a free kick into a shot on target. The goalkeeper failed to catch the ball, but luckily for the guests, there was no player to tap the ball into the net. In the last minute of the first half Arajuuri came close to scoring. Many fans rose in excitement as the defenders fired a shot, but the ball rolled a few centimetres next to the post.
The second half was more exhilarating. Both teams focused on the offensive, but Lech remained in control of the play. Despite lack of precision in passes, the hosts built a few good goal-scoring chances. In the 56th minute Robak was left with a lot of space and managed to fire a shot, but Szmatula intervened successfully.
Jevtic, who was surely the best offensive player on the pitch, sent a few crosses into the penalty area, fired a few shots, but still Lech remained unable to score. However, only until the 73rd minute when the Swiss player rushed into the penalty area, held onto the ball for a while before passing to Formella who redirected the ball into the net. A few minutes later Formella received a great pass from Pawlowski, but this time his attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper was kept busy and when Arajuuri and Robak tried surprising Szmatula, the goalkeeper was forced to intervene in order to save his team from conceding another goal. The guests opened up in the closing minutes, clearly determined to equalize, but instead Lech scored the second goal. Gajos was the one who sent a shot from a short distance past the goalkeeper and into the net, setting the final score to 2:0.
