In the 6th round of T-Mobile Ekstraklasa Lech Poznan lost at INEA Stadium with Piast Gliwice. Kamil Vacek scored a goal worth all three league points.
Maciej Skorza made several changes in Lech's defense line ahead of the match with the current Ekstraklasa leader. Maciej Gostomski returned to guard the goal, Kebba Ceesay appeared on the left flank, while Aziz Tetteh took over the role of the defensive midfielder. In addition, for the first time since the beginning of June the fans gathered at INEA Stadium could see Paulus Arajuuri on the pitch.
The guests were the ones who attacked first. Soon after the referees first whistle Piast could have already scored when Ceesay lost the ball to Mraz and the latter sent a cross into the penalty area. Szeliga tried heading the ball into the net, but his shot wasn't on target. In addition, the player collided with Gostomski and was therefore forced to the leave the pitch and be taken to the hospital.
Most of the play took place in the midfield. Lech's players focused on creating goal-scoring opportunities with slowly built offensive actions, while Piast waited for the hosts to make a mistake and give them a chance to counterattack. One of Lech's best chances to score took place after a corner kick when Kaminski redirected the ball to Hamalainen. However, the Finnish player wasn't fast enough and the goalkeeper took over the ball.
The team from Poznan remained attacking intensively, but neither did Formella, Thomalla nor Hamalainen manage to convert the actions into a goal. The wasted chances took revenge on Lech and in the closing minutes of the first half Piast scored. Tetteh made a mistake by practically giving the ball away to Nespora, who then passed it to Badia, while the Spaniard sent a cross to Vacek, leaving Gostomski helpless.
Lech began the second half very determined to score, however despite many opportunities, the hosts' offensive actions did not bring favorable results. Ceesay, Thomalla and Hamalainen all failed to convert the attacks into an equalizer.
The second half looked similar to the first one and for most of the time Lech occupied its rival's penalty area, while Piast waited patiently to counterattack. Pawlowski was one of the players who could have scored an equalizer, but he decided to shoot instead of passing to Hamalainen, and therefore another goal-scoring opportunity was wasted.
The guests' solid defense line turned out to be impossible to pass through and so Lech lost points yet again. The fourth loss this season acurrently places Lech Poznan right above the relegation zone.
