On Sunday afternoon Lech Poznan beat Korona Kielce at home 1:0. Kownacki scored a goal late in the game and the three points put Lech on the fourth rank in the league.
The hosts began the match really well. Shortly after the referee’s first whistle, the team from Poznan had its first scoring chance. Pawlowski, who had free space around him, received a pass from Majewski and redirected it into the box. Jevtic was waiting for the cross, but his shot was too strong. On the other half of the pitch Putnocky was forced to intervene when Kallaste fired a shot at Lech’s goal, but since the goalkeeper made no mistake, the ball did not fall into the net.
Lech indisputably dominated the game and in the 14th minute the hosts had another opportunity to score. Robak’s shot was stopped by the guests’ goalkeeper, but the ball found Jevtic and if it wasn’t for the defender’s last-moment intervention, the Swiss might have scored. Pawlowski had a chance of his own as well, however his attempt from outside the penalty area did not fall into the back of the net.
In the 26th minute the same winger dribbled past a couple of defenders, raced into the box and fired a shot from a close distance, but the goalkeeper saved the attempt without a mistake. Lech seemed to be closer and closer to a goal and a couple of minutes later Robak’s header… hit the crossbar. Arajuuri’s attempts caused some problems to Korona’s defenders, but they weren’t on target.
The second half did not differ much. Lech remained in possession of the ball for the majority of the time. Pawlowski was very active that Sunday night despite having just returned to the starting lineup after a couple of games. However, the winger’s shot’s weren’t on target. He, alongside Robak, had a number of goal scoring chances, but their passes and shots were either inaccurate, or Korona’s defense line stopped them in time.
Lech had to remain cautious in case Korona led a counterattack. One of the guests’ fast offensive action was finished off by Aankour, but the footballer’s attempt to lob Putnocky was a failure. In the 63rd minute the offensive player was left unmarked near the box, but luckily for Lech, their goalkeeper stopped the accurate shot. Meanwhile, Lech continued its invasion of Korona’s half of the pitch, but without desirable results. Since Korona was defending solidly, whenever one of the hosts had a chance to shoot, they did. However, most of the tries weren’t simply on target.
Lech hit the crossbar once again in the 75th minute when Jozwiak raced into the box, gave the ball to Kownacki, but since the latter was blocked, Jevtic was the one who fired a slightly inaccurate pass. Finally, in the 81st minute Lech succeeded. Kownacki received a pass from Robak, dribbled around a defender and placed the ball beneath the crossbar and in the back of the net. The goal set the final score and gave Lech valuable three points which place them on the fourth rank in the league table.
