Lech Poznań beat Hapoel Beer Sheva 2:1 in a sparring match. Vernon De Marco and Łukasz Trałka scored for the Polish team.
The Israeli team had a strong opening of the game. In the 2nd minute, after Hapoel was awarded a free kick, Taha beat Lech’s keeper with a precise shot. Shortly afterward, Lech had a similar set piece, but Jevtic decided to cross the ball into the box instead of shooting and Vernon De Marco converted the pass into an equalizer with a header.
For the next period of time, most of the play took place in the midfield. The Polish team had a couple of scoring chances following attempts from Radut. The Romanian player had two free kicks, but both shots were saved by the goalkeeper.
Half an hour into the match, the score remained a draw. Hapoel looked for chances to score following set pieces which the Israeli team converted into passes to their striker Melikson. Lech had a decent goal scoring opportunity after their keeper sent a precise, long ball to Tomczyk, but the youngster’s finish was off target.
Two minutes before halftime, Hapoel came close to scoring the second goal, but Putnocky’s impressive intervention stopped the Israelis from taking the lead. A moment later the score changed but it was Lech that added a goal to their account. Jevtic converted a corner kick into a precise cross and Trałka redirected the ball into the back of the net with a header.
In the second half, Lech changed the formation and played with three defenders – Janicki, Orłowski, and Rogne. The Norwegian centre-back was also given the captain’s armband after Jóźwiak came off the pitch. Similarly to the first half, both teams had a couple of good scoring chances that kept the match interesting. For instance, Klups’s shot from outside the box was successfully stopped by Hapoel’s keeper. Interestingly, the ball hit the back of the net three times during the first 30 minutes of the second half, but all goals were disallowed for either a foul, or an offside.
The Israeli team had a great goal scoring opportunity in the last couple of minutes but Burić’s intervention helped Lech keep the one-goal advantage. Since neither of the teams scored again, Lech could celebrate another victory in the pre-season sparring games.
