Lech Poznań defeated Radomiak Radom 1:0 in the 12th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Moreover, John van den Brom’s squad extended their series of matches without a conceded goal – Filip Bednarek has been unbeaten for 420 minutes.
After the Thursday clash with Hapoel Beer Sheva (0:0) in the group stage of the Europa Conference League, coach van den Brom made numerous changes in the starting line-up for the league game with Radomiak. Some of the players in the first eleven haven’t stepped foot against the Israeli team, among them Lubomir Satka, Afonso Sousa, and Filip Szymczak.
However, it was another substitute player that became the hero of the match – Gio Tsitaishvili. In the 12th minute, the Georgian, with the ball at his feet, left the right flank and crossed towards the middle of the pitch before firing a shot at the close corner which surprised Radomiak’s keeper and ended up setting the final score.
Although it was the only goal scored at Bułgarska Street on Sunday evening, Lech had plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. Tsitaishvili could have added another goal to his account but his shot from outside the box was just slightly off target. Sousa and Filip Marchwiński also failed to convert their chances into a goal. The first one’s header landed in the hands of Radomiak’s keeper, whereas the latter failed to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one after individually recovering the ball from the opponent.
As a result, the closing minutes of the match were nervous – Radomiak was motivated to score and get a point, whereas Lech tried hard to hold onto the favorable score. In the end, the guests failed to surprise the current Polish Champions and it was Lech that triumphed.
Lech’s next match is scheduled for Thursday – that’s when the team from Poznań will face Hapoel Beer Sheva in a Europa Conference League away match.
